✦ THE BIGGER PICTURE
02 / Why this matters
The hidden curriculum of college includes understanding advising, financial aid, class selection and where to ask for help. A student may be academically prepared yet unfamiliar with the systems that can make the first year easier.
Question to consider: What three pieces of information would be most useful to a student who is the first in their family to attend college?
✓ TAKE ACTION
03 / Your next step
- Create a checklist of college offices that offer advising and financial help.
- Ask recent graduates which questions they wish they had asked earlier.
- Offer to help a peer find an official resource without making assumptions about their experience.
Check the latest official information before relying on eligibility rules, schedules or services.
